The power of our own human capital (Night Class)

Watch the video below that offers some thoughts on human capital and answer these questions within your response.  In this post you will be required to respond to two of your classmates responses!

1.  What motivates your desire to increase your human capital?  The video mentions three factors so use these as your guide.

 2.  What aspect of your life do you plan to invest in to increase your human capital?

3.  At this point in your life if you were active member participating in Tampabaytime.org what human capital skill would you offer.

  1. I am my own motivator when it comes to increasing my human capital. I find it easiest to motivate myself and don't always pick up on energy from other people. My family has learned this and now that I think about it, they do not have to motivate me to get things done or use a rewards type method. If I were participating in tampabaytime.org I would offer to teach golf lessons or help children and adults understand the game and rules and encourage them as they learn new golf skills. I have been a golfer for many years, with several coaches, and I have learned things from all of them that I could share with others. Also, by being a self motivator, I do not find it hard to motivate others, which I could incorporate into my golf lessons. I plan to invest in my abilities to help and care for others as I move forward in hopes of becoming a nurse practitioner. This will increase my human capital by learning about all kinds of people, medical procedures, and gaining skills in my field.

  2. I am a self motivator for my human capital. The reason I say this is because I know I don't need punishments or rewards to make me do something such as studying really hard for a test. I motivate myself because I value the internal reward I get from succeeding at a hard test and going into it confident about what I knew. So all in all, me, myself, is what motivates me to increase my human capital. I think I'm going to invest my free time I could be spending with friends to increase my human capital for instance by getting an internship at an animal hospital or volunteering at a wildlife reserve because I value the internal reward I get from feeling like I'd increase my skills and experience in a field I'm interested in going in. I think if I were to be on Tampabaytime, I'd offer open water scuba diving lessons as I am about to be certified in Roatan, Honduras this coming Saturday!

    2. I am also a self motivator and I found that my feeling of accomplishment after completing something is my reward, I don't need a prize or punishment to help motivate myself.

    3. Internships are a great investment! I really hope to get one my self soon!

    4. An internship is a very good idea, and it could easily increase your human capital. I also think that I can be self motivated.

  3. I am a self motivator to increase my human capital. I motivate myself because I know there will be a reward in the end. I keep my eye on the prize, and by doing this my motivation for myself increases. I can increase my human capital, after attending post secondary schooling, I can invest most of my time into a job that goes hand in had with my major and what I am interested in. I would love to get a job that requires dance and/or something with the muscles, pt, or training. Since dance takes up most of my time, I would offer that skill up on tampabaytime.org for others to learn the skill of dance, and enjoy as much as I do.

    1. I am a self motivator like you, although I find myself losing sight of the "reward" at times. Like you, I would offer up skills that I spend most of my free time doing.

  4. I am my own motivator to rise my human capital .I know i'll struggle on the way but I can motivate myself and there will be a reward at the end .I always pick up my energy from my family and friends to improve my human capital .I plan to get a good job and invest most of my time in working and schooling in my career as a doctor . If I was a member at Tampabay.org I would offer the most healthy skills to help kids and adults at all cost to improve their health. And I would learn that helping is helpful and good for my career.

  5. I am a self motivator for my human capital, I don’t rely on a punishment or prize to get myself to do something. I get my jobs done because it makes me feel accomplished, and that feeling is my reward. To increase my human capital I would volunteer to work on cars for family and friends of mine. This would increase my human capital because I am spending my time learning about cars, which is something I enjoy, and helping out those who are experiencing car troubles. If I were on tampabaytime.org I would offer to teach others how to do some basic car maintenance, like checking tire pressure, changing oil, replacing headlights, replacing brakes, and rotating tires.

    1. I love that you enjoy working on cars and fixing things because that is something that is always beneficial, no matter where you are. You will always need to know how to fix things, and having that under your belt is awesome. You rock!!

  6. Hello friends! I'm a self-motivator when it comes to increasing my human capital. Over the course of my life, I think that reward also plays into that because the only reason I'm motivating myself to go far is because I know that hard work brings reward, whether it's a nice house, a nice car, or just a comfortable lifestyle in the future. I plan to invest a good amount of time, but not all of my time, in a job that I honestly enjoy because I know that if I'm investing my time into something I enjoy, I won't mind working every day, and I will be motivated to go farther in my career. One of my favorite things to do is organize/plan events. At my current job, I plan spa days for clients on a normal basis and I actually really enjoy it, so I think I could definitely help others with that skill. I hope you guys had an awesome weekend and I'll see you tomorrow!

    1. Finding a job you enjoy is tricky! I completely understand why it is so important to you though, because what's the point of waking up if you don't like what you are waking up to?

    2. I'm also a self motivator, motivated by the outcome

    3. I am also a self motivator and I give you a lot of credit for that job I wanted to do it but I thought it would be hard to get clients.

  7. I would like to say I am an entirely self-motivated person, but I know in reality I am also motivated by fear. I am motivated by the fear that all my hard work along with my parents’ and family’s hard work and sacrifices will be for nothing. However, I am still a very self-motivated person. I am motivated by my desire to grow as a person, and to achieve something that I can be proud of.
My biggest investments are my education and my relationships. I am fully invested in my education, because I have a long road ahead of me education wise. I hope to one day receive my doctorate along with a professional degree, and therefore I have to stay committed and invested in my education. I am also invested in building relationships; both professional and personal. I want to be a part of a community and so I need to create one for myself.
If I were to be on Tampabaytime.org the skill I would offer is writing. I love to write, and I am good at so helping people with something I love would be an absolute joy!

  8. I'm a self motivator when It comes to raising my human capital. I'm also motivated by fear because if I don't raise my human capital I won't be able to do the things I wanna do without a high school diploma and getting any sort of college education I need to follow my dreams in becoming a ultrasound tech. I'm fully invested in my education now that I'm back in high school. My families a big support on me going back to high school now after a year or 2 of not doing it. If I were on the tampabay.org I would offer to help people with gardening and yard work because I enjoy doing that kind of stuff and being outside.

    1. I agree with you about the whole "follow your dreams with a college diploma" cliche. It may be cliche but its true. It is very difficult to do anything in life with out proof of education.

  9. I'd have to say that I am motivated by a combination of reward and myself. To be completely honest, I am more motivated by reward. When I study for a test, it is because I want to be rewarded by going to a good college. I do like to learn some things in order to better myself, but most of the time, I study simply to get a good grade. In the future, I will increase my human capital by attending college. I'll hopefully double major and then attend graduate school to further increase my capital. If I were to be on Tampabaytime.org the skill I would offer would be baking. I like to bake cakes and cupcakes, and then I would also be able to decorate them. I would help at birthday parties or other special events.

    1. I agree with motivating yourself because of reward. The only reason we all do things is ultimately because there is a reward of some sort involved!

    2. In our school system, I would agree that most students study less to become more educated on a topic, and more to get a good grade. Also, I have had your cupcakes before, and I would for sure exchange service time with you any day!

  10. I am a self motivator. I believe in getting stuff done because its the right thing to do, But i have not always been this way. I want to increase by human capital by going to college. Since there are really good occupations with college diplomas. I would definitely offer my babysitting skills/general childcare. I would enjoy helping people with their children while at work or at meetings.

  11. I am self motivated, and motivated by the positive outcome. I like to be self motivated, but it makes it a lot easier to be self motivated when there is an outcome like making more money, or something that's going to help get you into college. I want to invest myself in trying really hard all of the time, not just when I'm motivated by huge outcome, because little things matter. If I had something to offer I would either say taking people on hunting trips as a guide, or maintenance/ fixing things on houses and cars like oil changes or brakes

  12. I am self motivated because the only person I can depend on when I am older is me. I plan on investing in my future by going to college and go to nursing school. I also plan on investing my money wisely. If I invest my time now in school and work I should be making a lot of money when I get older. What motivates me is my family because if I have money I can help them out with whatever they need. If I had one skill to give it would be cooking. I love cooking I cook for friends and family all the time.

  14. For the most part, I like to think that I am self motivated. Granted I do find motivation coming from others and potential reward, but I find that no matter the outside motivation, I have to be the one willing to do something. You can have a lot of people around you working to motivate you, but in the end, you have to get up and make things happen for yourself. In order to increase my human capital, I plan to invest in my education. Having natural skill can only take me so far, so in order to be successful and have a human capital that is useful to others, I have to further my knowledge and invest in getting a well rounded education. If I were on tampabaytime.org right now, I could offer my math skills for things like tutoring and also my skills in dance. I have invested a lot of time, and my parents have invested a lot of money into my dance education. I would like to think I could benefit from sharing my knowledge with others.

  15. I am self motivated as well. That's my human capital. I motivate myself to go back to school, so that increases my self capital. I need my diploma to keep my job, so I have to motivate myself to finish. In my free time, I cook and clean.
